If you are in Law Enforcement, Teaching, Fire-Fighting or serving as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), then you have probably heard of the Good Neighbor Program by HUD.  The program allows for those from the aforementioned professions to purchase a home at a 50% discount from appraised value.

No matter the market, that is a stellar deal. The trick to utilizing this program is teaming up with a HUD approved broker and having them keep you updated as to changes in the program and also to give you "frequent reminders" of the homes that fit within their program.
