Going all of the way back to 1990, when I moved from a small town in the mid west out to California to fulfill my dream of being an LAPD police officer, seems like so long ago. October 9, 1990 was the day of the "black line" at the Police Academy - Day #1.
I remember it well and it was a short six months of training only to be released on "probation". Not that type of probation, but probation that was a 1 year period of time as a new police officer.
A couple of weeks out of the academy I walked into a Bakers Square restaurant in North Hollywood. My Training officer was meeting another training officer there for code-7(police vernacular for lunch time). We, "Boots"(the nickname given to new recruits), were lucky that we were allowed to enter the "eating establishment" with our training officers. Some "Boots" were made to stay in the police vehicles and monitor the radio. (yes, we had portable radios, but old habits die hard :-)
There she was - Paris. I won't drag this on any more than necessary :-) - After repeated attempts,(nothing good comes easy), of trying to contact her while not being "on duty" - which was against the rules with the PD, I finally had my chance. We were married soon thereafter, and the rest is history.
During the mid 1990's we purchased our first home in Newhall California. Newhall is one of the cities in the Santa Clarita Valley. A modest home where we had nothing but problems. Those problems all pointed back to our Real Estate Agent of choice and the failure, on the behalf of the agent, of Paris and I not to be represented properly. If you want to read more about the "issues" that arose that became the catalyst for Paris and I obtaining our real estate licenses, we have that story, in more detail, on our about page.
